Hourly Starting Rate: $17.87
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Schedule: Monday through Friday 6:30 am - 4:30 pm and Saturdays 6:30 am-12:30 pm

Job Summary:
The Scale Operator serves as the first point of contact for our facilities by greeting and directing customers to the proper disposal location in a service-oriented manner, answering questions and resolving issues with an emphasis on tact and courtesy. Work involves processing the live weight of inbound and outbound vehicles by entering the information into the vehicle tracking software and collecting and processing payment from exiting vehicles and processing commercial accounts.

Essential Job Functions:
-Weighs all vehicles coming into and leaving landfill as outlined by operations procedure.
-Calculates monies owed and determines cash or billing.
-Maintains records of all transactions as outlined by operating procedure.
-Balances accounts daily.
-Prepares receipts for deposits.
-Maintains effective working relationship with public.
-Keeps Landfill Supervisor and Senior Accountant aware of any unusual situations.
-Exercises independent judgement in enforcing facility rules and regulations resolving issues.
-Maintains communications with other internal contacts.
-Operates scalehouse computers to obtain weight information about incoming shipments such as those from waste haulers.
-Accepts and prepares payment for deposit and processing.



JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:
General knowledge of basic accounting and basic mathematical operations; ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public; ability to effectively communicate in a courteous manner; writing skills to clearly and neatly complete forms, receipts, permits, reports, etc. as needed; skills to understand written instructions, directives, manuals, laws and regulations; ability to operate a calculator and computer;

Education and Experience:
Possess a high school diploma or GED.
Experience in service-oriented field with heavy customer service preferred.

Special Requirements:
Strong communication skills and a customer-first attitude
Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays to complete work within specified period of time.
Willing to travel between sites and adaptability to different work environments
Willing to travel as required.

Physical Requirements:
See well enough to read and write.
Hear well enough to respond to verbal communications.
Speak well enough to answer questions in a polite, courteous manner.
Body movement of mobility to bend, move, stand, and lift.
Able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
The ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as extreme heat or extreme cold, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, maintenance shops, HVAC systems, light to moderate traffic).
