Augusta Evans Special School is currently looking for a person to serve as a "Behavioral Resource Officer." This is a newly created position that will serve as support for the behavioral unit at Evans (R.I.S.E.). The main responsibility of the position is to aid in crisis intervention and behavior plan monitoring, however, helping with instructional activities will also be required.

Augusta Evans is a school for students with special needs including those with Autism, Downs Syndrome, and other cognitive disorders. The R.I.S.E. (Reaching Independence through a Structured Environment) program has been instrumental in providing a structured learning environment for our students who have difficulty in the regular classroom setting.

The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Help classroom teachers with daily routines and educational practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of behaviors and interventions.
  • Promote a peaceful classroom environment.
  • Follow school and classroom policies and protocols in order to show consistency and provide the best working and learning environment for students.
  • Review behavior plans regularly and implements interventions with integrity and fidelity.
  • Act swiftly and cooperatively when responding to disruptions and/or acts of aggression on school grounds.
  • Establish a genuine rapport between students, faculty, and parents.
  • Use discretion in handling confidential material and information.
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    A High School diploma is required and an Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.

    Ability to intercept and mediate arguments and fights.

    Ability to interact well with children and adolescents.

    Good work ethic with consistent attendance.

    Ability to lift weights in excess of 50 lbs.

    Even temper.

    Patient attitude.

    Former military or police officers are encouraged to apply.

    If hired, the candidate will be required to attend crisis intervention training and pass a drug and criminal background check.

    Duty Days 187

    Salary Range: From/To Bachelor's beginning pay: $34,358.00. This position is for the 2023-2024 school term only. Assignment for subsequent years is contingent upon continuous funding. Pursuant to Section 4(3)(b) of the Students First Act of 2011, time employed in this position shall not count towards non-probationary status or tenure with the Mobile County Public School System due to the fact that the funding and duration of this position is finite.

    Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
