Position Overview: Specialty : Emergency Medicine Type : Locum Tenens Start Date : ASAP End Date : Ongoing Coverage Type : Scheduled Clinical Hours Only Practice Setting : Outpatient Key Responsibilities: Patient Care : Manage an Emergency Department with 21 beds , ensuring efficient and effective care for all patients. Handle 18-22 patients per shift in a high-acuity setting, requiring rapid decision-making and strong clinical skills. The department sees approximately 28,000 annual visits , with a 20% admission rate . Physicians are expected to be comfortable seeing 2 patients per hour , maintaining a high standard of care. No rounding is required, allowing you to focus solely on emergency care. Shifts : The facility requires nocturnist physicians who are comfortable working night shifts. 24 hours of physician coverage is provided daily, with additional support from 20 hours of Advanced Practice Provider (APP) coverage . Physicians who can commit to a minimum of 8-10 shifts per month are highly preferred. Clinical Requirements : Candidates must be board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine. Required certifications include ACLS , ATLS , and PALS to ensure readiness for a wide range of emergencies. Physicians must be licensed in Alabama (AL) or through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) .
