Job Description:
Job Description Job Description The Detox RN/LPN is expected for
meet the duties and responsibilities of a RN/LPN in the Alabama
Board of Nursing Administrative Code Chapter 610-X-6 Standards of
Nursing. The Detox RN/LPN is responsible for overseeing the
withdrawal process from drugs and alcohol. Will work with patients
who are experiencing symptoms related to substance abuse, including
withdrawal symptoms, cravings, and other issues that may arise
during treatment. The role of a detox nurse is not limited to
managing withdrawal symptoms; will also provide support and
counseling to help patients through their recovery process.
Responsibilities include: Provide direct patient care within the
scope of detox nursing, including assessment, planning,
intervention, and evaluation. Develop and implement individualized
care plans for patients based on comprehensive assessment data.
Performing physical assessments to determine the patient’s current
health status and predict outcomes of treatment. Conducting
interviews with clients to gather information about their
lifestyles, habits, and medical histories. Coordinating with
physicians and other healthcare professionals in order to develop
treatment plans that meet each patient’s individual needs. Monitor
patients’ progress and adjust care plans as needed in collaboration
with other members of the healthcare team. Educate patients and
families about the detoxification process and what to expect during
their stay. Answer questions and address concerns in a
compassionate and professional manner. Serve as a resource for
certified nursing assistants and healthcare professionals regarding
detox care. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
Administer medications and treatments according to established
protocols. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to help
improve the overall care provided to patients Keep abreast of new
developments in the field of detox nursing through continued
education and professional development opportunities. Serve on
committees and work groups as needed. Perform other duties as
assigned. Required Qualifications Degree in Register or Practical
Nursing. Register Nursing or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a
current Alabama or Compact state license. 1 year experience as an
RN/LPN, in mental health, critical care, detox or addiction
treatment preferred, not required. BLS Certification. If in
recovery, the nurse must disclose prior to hiring and have two
years uninterrupted abstainance. Regular attendance including
assigned shifts and staff meetings (80% staff meetings required to
meet standards of the position) Preferred but not required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of detoxification process
and withdrawal management protocols Ability to assess patient needs
and provide care accordingly Empathetic and compassionate bedside
manner Ability to work well under pressure Attention to detail
Familiarity with electronic medical records systems Willingness to

Reports directly to the Nurse Manager Amount of travel and any
other special conditions or requirements Minimal travel in Mobile
