Job Description:
Local Home Health Company is searching for a motivated
Occupational Therapist in Mobile County. This is a part-time
position with competitive benefits.PURPOSE: To provide relevant and
meaningful occupational services to appropriately referred
patients. To assist the patient to achieve maximum/optimal level of
independence.DUTIES:The Staff/Contract Occupational Therapist shall
perform the following:1. Coordinate patient care plans with the
referring physician and other health personnel within the treatment
settings.2. Evaluate patient's occupational therapy needs and plans
a patient program.3. Administer, schedule and supervise direct
patient care utilizing appropriate occupational therapy
techniques.4. Instruct patient and patient's family in home
program.5. Maintain records pertinent to patient treatment:Daily
progress notes.Weekly summary.Monthly physician update.Discharge
summaries.6. Direct patients in the use of wheelchairs and
prosthetic and orthopedic devices.7. Prepare and write home
exercise programs and instruct both patient and patient's family in
their use.8. Communicate with physician regarding changes or
modification in treatment plan or patient status.9. Participate in
rehabilitation team conferences, conferences with physicians, and
members of the rehabilitation team as necessary regarding problems,
progress and needs of patient.10. Follow all departmental and
agency policies and procedures, and comply with the agency's
employee handbook.11. Be responsible for knowing the work schedule,
observing work hours, and maintaining a good attendance record.12.
Assist in ensuring departmental cooperation with and adherence to
corporate compliance programs.13. Attend or assure representation
at facility meetings, i.e., department head, safety committee,
patient care planning, infection control and in-service programs as
directed.14. Perform other tasks as directed.The above statements

that may be inherent in the position.PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: 1.
Responsibility: Directly accountable to the Department Head of
Occupational Therapy. 2. Knowledge: Requires basic knowledge of the
overall health care system. Should have knowledge of the geographic
area. Requires strong understanding of the meaning of illness in
the home, caring for geriatric and disabled patients.3. Skill: Must
be able to assemble, maintain records and present data in report
form. Must have the ability to work with individuals. Must be able
to meet and deal with the public. 4. Mental Application: Must show
a very high degree of initiative, judgment in assessing data and
situations. Must be able to set priorities. Must be able to
communicate effectively in speaking and writing.5. Dexterity: Must
be able to function in an office setting and home environment. Must
be able to drive a car.6. Accuracy: Must be able to make accurate
decisions based on data available.7. Experience: One to two years
experience in field of Occupational Therapy, preferably in home
health care setting is preferred.8. Education or Formal Training:
Must be a graduate of an accredited program of Occupational Therapy
or completion of the A.O.T.A. Career Mobility Program.9. Physical
Demands: Physical Activity: Physical activity involves walking,
standing, carrying, bending, lifting, sitting, crouching, reaching,
pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing
and repetitive motions resulting in medium work.Exertion
Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry from 20 to 50 pounds
of weight up to 10 feet occasionally, from 10 to 25 pounds of
weight up to 10 feet frequently, and up to 10 pounds of weight
constantly to move objects. Must be able to walk, stand or sit to a
significant degree depending on task requirements.Working
Conditions: Frequent travel to rural areas where patient lives,
poor to good conditions in patient's home. Office is well
ventilated, lighted and temperature regulated. Hazards or Risks: In
office, minimal. Must use own car for travel to patient's home
often in rural areas or in public housing units which are
congested, not well maintained or supervised. Must handle potential
problems in the home related to possible problems of alcohol and
drug abuse, child and older adult neglect or abuse, marital
problems and patient's acute illness or possible death. Patient's
homes are often in bad need of repair with broken steps, sunken
porches, rat or roach infested and without the use of telephone
service or nearby neighbors to assist in an emergency. Subject to
atmospheric conditions as well as normal driving conditions. Must
be able to work in restricted area performing repetitive work for
extended periods of time.Must be able to concentrate on work tasks
amidst distractions such as noise, conversations, and foot
