Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit Nurse and Charge Nurse. Coordinates
activities of the unit. Directs, organizes, and assigns work.
Assesses, monitors, and educates on patient care. Assists team in
daily tasks, ensuring hospital procedures and post anesthesia care
are followed and standards are met. Assists with quality and
education throughout the department. Uses experience and judgment
to plan and accomplish goals and a variety of tasks. Leads and
directs the work of others. Florida Registered Nurse license.
Associate's degree in nursing required. BSN degree preferred. 3-5
years of clinical experience and leadership experience preferred.
Requires BLS, ACLS, PALS. Supervises, plans, directs, evaluates,

Reports to a Department Director. Familiar with standard concepts,
practices, and procedures of Surgical Services. Assists with
quality and education throughout the department. The Post
Anesthesia Care Unit Charge Nurse is responsible for providing care
for patients ranging from pediatric, adolescent, young-adult, adult
and geriatric. The PACU nurse provides care provides care
effectively and efficiently, addressing psychosocial, physical and
general aspects of care specific to the PACU environment. The PACU
nurse communicates with the surgeon, anesthesiologists and staff
members as appropriate, and is able to work in a critical care
environment and respond appropriately to patient emergencies and
needs. Supervises and acts as a PACU RN and is responsible for
collecting preoperative and post operative patient health
information, post-operative assessment, providing preoperative
procedural instructions for PACU procedures. Responsible for
providing preoperative and postoperative care, including, but not
limited to assessment, reassessment and intervention required in
care of the surgical patient. The Post Anesthesia Nurse is
responsible for providing postoperative instructions and discharge
planning as needed in the care of the postoperative patient.
Provides preoperative and postoperative care, to include
assessment, reassessment, intervention, and education of the
surgical patient. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and
procedures. Works close with providers for safe surgical
care.Performs the role Charge Nurse and that of a Post Anesthesia
Care Nurse.Evaluates assigned patients and plans, implements and
documents nursing care.Assists physicians during examinations and
procedures.Performs various patient tests and administers
medications within the scope of practice of the registered
nurse.Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care
goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions,
medications, and self-care skills.Relies on experience and judgment
to plan and accomplish goals.Understands anatomy and physiology and
has the ability to monitor and adapt to changing patientdynamics
pre- and postoperatively.Considers patient assessment information
and collaborates and consults with team members (othernursing
colleagues, surgeons and anesthesia providers) to develop an
individualized plan of carewithability to make adjustments to
attain designated patient outcomes.Alerts surgeons, anesthesia
personnel and co-workers to potential risks to patients (e.g.
Abnormallab results, abnormal EKG, vital signs, symptomatic
changes, and etc.).Institutes emergency procedures as
necessary.Reports tothe department director/manager.Accepts
responsibility and accountability for pre- and postoperative
nursing practice.Obtains any lab work and testing required for the
surgical patient.Reports any abnormal lab results to
physician/anesthesiologist.Provides preoperative and postoperative
care, including but not limited to assessment,reassessment and
intervention required in care of the surgical patient.Responsible
and accountable for pre- and post-operative nursing
practice.Performs accurate documentation on all forms/in
systems.Participates in pre- and postoperative teaching, answers
patients questions accurately and explains procedures before
initiating actions, allows choices within scope of
practice.Promotes comparable levels of care in all practice
settings in which surgical and/or invasiveprocedures are
performedConsiders patient assessment information and collaborates
and consults with team members (othernursing colleagues, surgeons
and anesthesia providers) to develop an individualized plan of
carewith the ability to make adjustments to attain designated
patient outcomes.Explains procedures before initiating actions,
allows choices within scope of practice.Works close with
anesthesiologist to provide safe surgical care.Works well withother
units and other unit charge nurses. Good communication
skills.Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish
goals. Performs a variety of tasks.A wide degree of creativity and
latitude is expected. Requires an associate's degree and is
licensed as a registered nurse.BSN preferredRequires minimum of 3
years experience in PACU/Recovery and/or Critical Care.Requires
American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and PALS prior to hire. Our
