Description
Performs role of Day Surgery/Pre-anesthesia Nurse.Obtains history
and physicals by interviews for procedural patients. Responsible
for collecting patient health information, pre-operative
assessment, providing pre-operative instructions, and obtaining
necessary tests required. Provides preoperative and postoperative
care, to include assessment, reassessment, intervention, and
education of the surgical patient. Associate's degree required and
current Florida RN license. BSN preferred. Familiar with standard
concepts, practices, and procedures.Works close with providers for
safe surgical care. Properly prepares charts for surgical patients,
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and
latitude is expected.
* Performs the role or Day Surgery and Pre-anesthesia Nurse.
* Obtains history and physicals by telephone or face-to-face
interviews for upcoming surgical/procedural patients .
* Orders appropriate pre-operative tests as required by
anesthesia.
* Works close with anesthesiologist to provide safe surgical
care.
* Works well with doctors offices, OR scheduling, and Registration.
Good communication skills.
* Properly prepares charts for upcoming surgical patients,
* Makes pre and post operative telephone calls.
* Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Performs a variety of tasks.
* A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to
a manager or head of a unit/department.
* Requires an associate's degree and is certified as a registered
nurse. Prefer Bachelors degree in Nursing.
* Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and surgical
procedures.
* Evaluates assigned patients and plans, implements and documents
nursing care.
* Assists physicians during examinations and procedures.
* Performs various patient tests and administers medications within
the scope of practice of the registered nurse.
* Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care
goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions,
medications, and self-care skills.
* Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish
goals.
* Understands anatomy and physiology and has the ability to monitor
and adapt to changing patient dynamics pre- and
postoperatively.
* Considers patient assessment information and collaborates and
consults with team members (other nursing colleagues, surgeons and
anesthesia providers) to develop an individualized plan of care
with ability to make adjustments to attain designated patient
outcomes.
* Alerts surgeons, anesthesia personnel and co-workers to potential
risks to patients (e.g. Abnormal lab results, abnormal EKG,
etc.).
* Reports to the department director/ manager/Charge RN of
unit/department.
* Accepts responsibility and accountability for pre- and
postoperative nursing practice.
* Responsible for preoperative requirements of surgery and
preparation of patient and chart for surgery.
* Obtains any lab work and preoperative testing required for the
surgical patient.
* Reports any abnormal lab results to
physician/anesthesiologist.
* Provides preoperative and postoperative care, including but not
limited to assessment, reassessment and intervention required in
care of the surgical patient.
* Responsible and accountable for pre- and post-operative nursing
practice.
* Performs accurate documentation on all forms/in systems.
* Participates in pre- and postoperative teaching, answers
patient's questions accurately and explains procedures before
initiating actions, allows choices within scope of practice.
* Promotes comparable levels of care in all practice settings in
which surgical and/or invasive procedures are performed
* Considers patient assessment information and collaborates and
consults with team members (other nursing colleagues, surgeons and
anesthesia providers) to develop an individualized plan of care
with the ability to make adjustments to attain designated patient
outcomes.
* Participates in pre- and post-operative teaching, answers
patient's questions accurately and honestly,
* Explains procedures before initiating actions, allows choices
within scope of practice.
* Promotes comparable levels of care in all practice settings in
which surgical and/or invasive procedures are performed.
* Requires Amercian Heart Association BLS, ACL, and PALS
certification prior to hire.
