Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for general accounting
functions including preparation of journal entries, maintaining
balance sheet account reconciliations, accounts receivable and
accounts payable, assist with monthly closings, and reconciling
bank statements. This position assists with maintaining all
accounting records and preparing special financial
reports/statements and database queries as directed by the Solid
Waste Management team. This position is key in assisting management
with financial analysis of actual versus budget for both revenues
and expenses. It also identifies, tracks, and records all fixed
assets and applicable depreciation expense. Assists with submitting
requests for FEMA disasters. Assists with tracking of grant money
and special project costs recaps.
Essential Job Functions:
Accounting and Financial
-Prepare and review monthly financial/budget reports for proper
account codes to revenues and expenditures by fund and line item.
Prepare and enter journal entries as assigned.
-Assist Residential Accountant with maintaining records and
reconciling deposits for accounting records to ensure funds are
balanced monthly.
-Responsible for the tracking of Fixed Assets, calculation of
depreciation and corresponding schedules and documentation.
-Assist with the purchasing function as needed.
-Assist senior level staff with financial tasks and system related
issues as needed.
-Prepare various reports upon request.
-Prepare schedules as necessary for auditing firm, including but
not limited to year-end schedules and Financial Statement
package.
Reports and Records Management
-Maintain various reports as needed.
-Ability to produce reports using various software programs.
-Strong Excel skills for manipulating large datasets (pivot
tables/dashboards).
-Post to and maintain various databases used for reporting.
-Responsible for the integrity of data and the confidentiality of
information.
-Maintain all financial files in an organized and timely
manner.
-Ensure that files are kept up to date and purged according to the
Records Disposition Schedule.
Other Operations Responsibilities
-Fills in for Residential Accountant and other staff when necessary
and must maintain current knowledge of all standard operating
procedures.
-Perform filing tasks.
-Provide assistance to general public, various agencies and Solid
Waste employees.
-Enter data and operate computers, copiers, scanner and
printer.
-Assist with payroll processing.
-All other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:
-Strong working knowledge of business software packages such as
spreadsheets, databases and word processing.
-Ability to produce reports with report writer software would be a
plus.
-Attention to detail and accuracy in accounting procedures.
-Working knowledge of accounting software systems such as
Acumatica.
-Math and analytical skills to perform accounting and bookkeeping
operations.
-Skills to prepare reports, complete forms, compose letters and
accurately and neatly post journals and ledgers.
-Problem analysis and problem-solving skills.
-Skills to read and understand written instructions, manuals and
correspondence.
-Ability to operate office machines such as 10 key calculators,
computers and copy machines.
-Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
-Knowledge of general office procedures.
-Project planning, organizing and scheduling by priority.
-Ability to work independently with little supervision.
-Skills to communicate effectively with office staff and general
public.
-Ability of teamwork and relating well with other staff
members.
-Thorough knowledge of departmental policies and procedures and
ability to apply them.
Special Requirements:
Possess valid driver's license.
Willing to work nonstandard hours as necessary.
Willing to travel out of County as needed.
Willing to attend meetings, conferences, workshops, and training
sessions as related in assigned work area.
Minimum Requirements:
Possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business
administration or closely related field. Educational documentation
(transcripts) may be requested upon offer of employment.
Progressive accounting and bookkeeping experience of five (5)
years
Proficiency in uses of accounting software like Microsoft Excel
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the employee to see well enough to read and
write; hear well enough to respond to verbal communications and
speak well enough to answer questions in a polite, courteous
manner.
Occasionally required to stand and walk with prolonged periods of
sitting at a desk and working on a computer with the ability to
reach with hands and arms; Body movement of mobility to bend, move,
stand, and lift.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the
actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in
performing essential functions.
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and
observing general surroundings and activities.
Candidate must be able to perform the duties of this position in
various office settings when necessary.
Tasks may be performed with some exposure to adverse environmental
conditions, such as extreme heat or extreme cold, dirt, dust,
pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and
noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic
hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence,
disease, or pathogenic substances. Work is generally in a
moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, maintenance shops,
HVAC systems, light to moderate traffic).
